We may love the Fourth of July but it can be a bad holiday with our pets. Keep your pets cool and comfortable as the temperatures heat up during the day. Please provide fresh water throughout the day to encourage pets to drink despite the distraction of festivities. And while we are enjoying BBQs, make sure the four legged family members don't overindulge in rich foods and alcohol. As the evening approaches, keep your critters confined in a secure and quiet area so the fireworks don't "freak" them out. Many pets get loose and scared on the Fourth-make sure your pet has ID and a microchip in case they escape on you!
Road Trip! Are you planning to hit the highway with your four legged family members this summer? There have been many outbreaks of infectious disease in the surrounding areas (particularly canine influenza). Come see us and make sure your pets are protected during your travels. Some of the vaccines take time to be effective so make sure you plan for your trip. The green grass, the smell of the flowers, the warmth of the sun, ambling down River Street.....and the fleas and ticks! We love spring but this one is following on the heels of a relatively mild winter and an exploding tick population--yes even in downtown Troy and its environs! Those little buggers are already quite active, and we have seen both Lyme and anaplasmosis positive pups already-if your pet has not had his or her yearly 4dx test for tick borne disease and heartworm, come in and we will get it done. We have many options available to help you prevent flea and tick infestations, and we can help you find what works best for your pet and your family.-whether it is a topical, a collar, or oral medications. All of the products we have are guaranteed by the manufacturer--no counterfeit suppliers or goods from no name factories that have the potential to harm your pet.
Prevention truly is important not just for your pet but for your human family as well-Lyme and anaplasmosis are seen in people as well. Letting fleas and ticks get a foothold in your home can also lead to infestations that require costly professional intervention to clean up. Come talk to us about how to stop fleas and ticks in their tracks!
